About Ulcca

"The future belongs not to those who best replicate machine intelligence, but to those who most fully inhabit their human one."

Ulcca Joshi Hansen is a futurist, author, and systems thinker whose work explores how societies, institutions, and learning systems evolve during periods of rapid change. Ulcca Joshi Hansen doesn't just study the future — she helps people prepare to meet it. As a cultural futurist, she tracks the forces reshaping our world: accelerating AI, shifting power structures, fractured institutions. But where others see only disruption, she sees an urgent invitation — to reclaim the capacities that make us irreducibly human.

"I grew up between cultures, on three continents, always slightly outside whatever room I was in. For a long time I understood that as a problem. It took me years to understand it as preparation. Seeing every system from the outside is what let me notice that the way things are is not the way things have to be.

That is what a futurist actually does. Not predict. Read what is already in motion, and help people think more clearly about the futures that are genuinely possible, so they can act with more agency now."

The Future of Smart

The Future of Smart: Ulcca reframes what it means to be smart in an age when machines can out-analyze us, and makes the case for the human capacities we have spent a century undervaluing.

Rethinking the 3Rs

Rethinking the 3Rs: A look at what we actually build our institutions to optimize for, and what it would take to design them around human beings instead.
